Hello Vadim,

Thank you for contacting QLogic support.  As Optical SFPs are by far the most common SFPs for the SANbox520X switches, they are the ones most widely tested.  There are copper SFPs available that should work with our switch, the only recommendation would be to choose active copper SFPs.  As this configuration isn't as common, I do not have a specific product that I would recommend.  It should be possible to discuss this with your reseller to determine what is going to be available.

If you have additional questions or comments please let me know, I will be glad to help.

Subject: Question conserning SANbox 520x product family

How do you do, support!

I've got a question conserning SANbox 520x product family. The
situation is the following.

I've got a 8-port Vixel 8100 FC-switch, which is connected to a Mylex
disk storage through an optical link and 6 servers by copper link
(QLogic QLA2200 HBA's are used for this).

I plan to upgrade my SAN to something like SANbox 5202 switches in
order to increase availability and fault-tolerance and to increase the
number of ports. Unfortunately, all the servers are working 24x7 under
heavy load, so the upgrade will not be easy. I will have to plug
everything I've got to some new switch and then move on quite
carefully, upgrading servers one-by-one, changing HBAs to opticals or
just making dual connectivity for servers by installing new optical
HBAs into servers and installing a second switch also.

I would very appreciate if you could help me with advice.

1. My current switch isn't so reliable as I would like it, and I
probably will have to plug the equipment into a new one and then to
go on. Are there available some copper SFP modules for 5202 switch?

2. Maybe there are some compatible ones ? Maybe my system integrator
could order such SFPs for me so I could upgrade smoothly... I plan
to have 2Gbps optical FC everywhere but for some period of time I
need to have both types of connection working together. The system
  just can't stop working.

3. You have a lot of experience in these matters, maybe you could
  recommend something?

Thank you for your attention.

Waiting for your answer
